Donald Trump asked a mother with a crying baby to leave a Virginia campaign rally Tuesday, after first indicating the distraction didn't bother him.
At the rally in Ashburn, Va., Trump first stopped his speech to acknowledge a crying baby in the audience. He seemed to joke about it, telling the mother repeatedly not to worry about it.
"Don't worry about that baby, I love babies," Trump said. "I love babies! I hear that baby crying, I like it!"
"I like it! What a baby. What a beautiful baby," he continued.
"It's young and beautiful and healthy, and that's what we want."
But a few minutes later, it became apparent that what Trump wanted was for the still crying baby to leave.
"Actually I was only kidding. You can get the baby out of here," he said, again stopping his speech as laughter erupted from the crowd.
"I think she really believed me that I loved having a baby crying while I'm speaking," he added.
"That's ok. People don't understand. But that's ok."
