Two former East Point police officers face trial

EAST POINT, Ga. - Opening statements began Tuesday in the trial of two former East Point police officers.

Former Corporal Howard Weems and former Sergeant Marcus Eberhart are on trial for the death of Gregory Towns, Jr.

Towns died after he was shocked with a stun gun repeatedly while in handcuffs in April of last year.

The charges against the two former officers include felony murder, involuntary manslaughter, and aggravated assault.
