Man wanted for murder shot by deputy

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to review the use of force in the attempted arrest of a Massachusetts man wanted for murder.

A man wanted for murder in Massachusetts was shot by a deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force during an attempt to apprehend him in DeKalb County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, 32-year-old Kevin Barton tried to run from authorities.

Surveillance video from the adjacent Valero gas station showed law enforcement officers waiting for the man at around 1:15 p.m. at the Rockmore Shopping Center at the intersection of Rockbridge Road and Memorial Drive. The shooting itself happened out of frame.

Investigators say Barton pulled out a handgun from within his clothing and raised it towards a deputy. In response, a deputy opened fire on Barton, striking him at least once.

He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Following the shooting, police officers converged on the parking lot.

"There were police everywhere," one eyewitness told FOX 5.

US Marshal involved in DeKalb County shooting

The U.S. Marshals Service has confirmed one of their own was involved in the DeKalb County shooting at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Rockbridge Road.

The intersection was shut down for several hours as investigators combed over the scene.

The exact condition of the individual shot has not been released, but investigators say he is stable. 

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate a shooting involving law enforcement officers in DeKalb County on Tuesday afternoon.

Barton will face additional charges stemming from his encounter with authorities on Tuesday.
