Uber: some driver, rider data breached in 2016
ATLANTA - Uber announces Tuesday one of their third-party vendors had a data breach which revealed driver and some customer information.
Dara Khosrowshahi posted about the 2016 incident on the company’s page. The CEO reported two people outside Uber were able to gain access to a cloud-based service which housed driver’s names and license numbers as well as the names, emails, and phone numbers of millions of users.

Khosrowshahi wrote that the company does not believe that trip location history, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, Social Security numbers or dates of birth of some 57 million users were captured in the attack.
Uber stated it immediately fixed the issue. The company went on to state it has notified driver whose license numbers were stolen. It also will be providing the more than 600,000 drivers with free credit monitoring and identity theft protection.
Uber stated, so far, they have not seen any fraudulent use of the information
The company has set up information pages for drivers and riders to help them better understand the breach.
