Union City firefighter hospitalized after 'accidental' shooting at fire station

A Union City firefighter has been rushed to the hospital after officials say he was shot late Wednesday night.

The shooting happened before midnight at Fire Station 42 off of Shannon Parkway. Medics transported the firefighter to Grady Memorial Hospital. 

According to a release from the fire department, the firefighter is in critical but stable condition. 

At this time, it appears that the shooting was accidental, but it is still under investigation. The fire department did not release details on what led to the shooting. It is not known if the firefighter shot himself or was shot by someone else. 

Union City says it will provide more information as it becomes available and they are asking the community to join them in offering their support to the fire department.
