WATCH: Chimpanzee escapes from zoo

A chimpanzee that escaped from a zoo in Japan went on a wild and dangerous climbing adventure.

The chimp named "Cha-Cha" was on the loose for about two hours before he climbed up a utility, where he sat perched for a while. Rescuers were lifted up in a bucket truck to try to coax him down.

The chimp was shot with a tranquilizer dart, which spooked him and he went climbing across the wires. He was eventually shot with another sedative, where he plunged into a blanket supported by workers below.

Zoo officials are investigating how the 24-year-old chimpanzee escaped. There's no word yet on his condition.
