Water and sewer rates going up next year in Cobb County
COBB COUNTY, Ga. - Cobb County residents will see their water and sewer rates increase starting April 1, following a decision by the county commissioners to approve an 18% rate hike over the next five years.
The first round of increases will raise water charges by 2.5% and sewer charges by 3.5%. After that, both fees will rise by 3.5% annually through 2029. The additional revenue is expected to support infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.
Meanwhile, DeKalb County leaders have delayed a decision on their own proposed water and sewer rate increases. At a meeting last night, the county commission voted to table a plan for a 6% annual rate increase over the next three years. The proposed hike was intended to fund upgrades at the Scott Candler Water Treatment Plant.
Both counties are emphasizing the need for investments to ensure reliable water and sewer services.
