DALTON, Ga. - The Whitfield County Board of Elections says it is working to correct an error on two ballot questions.
County election officials say two special election questions, regarding the Whitfield County School District, were mistakenly included on the ballots of voters within the City of Dalton Independent School District from Oct. 16 to Oct. 23.
Those in the City of Dalton Independent School District are not allowed to vote in questions, referendums, or decisions related to the Whitfield County School District.
County election officials say they are duplicating all ballots cast in early voting and absentee-by mail ballots cast during that time. The issue has been corrected for all future ballots.
The duplication will take place at the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners Meeting room on Oct. 31.
"The Board of Elections have acted promptly to rectify the situation," said Stephen Kelehear, Chairman of the BOE. "Let me assure all the voters of Whitfield County and the City of Dalton that their votes will be counted correctly."
Officials they are following the rules and regulations set by the State Election Board and the Georgia Election Code.
The cause of the error has not been revealed.
The ballots for the election on Nov. 7 also will be correct, officials say.
