FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - A wife wants answers as investigators search for the hit and run driver responsible for her husband's death.
That 67-year-old grandfather was driving to the store when he was run off the road by a Mercedes SUV that passed him in the grass median of a state road in Fayette County, according to investigators.
Carolyn Mitchell wants answers in the death of her husband, Steve Mitchell. Investigators said he was driving his red pickup truck when he was forced off the road by the careless actions of the driver of a black Mercedes SUV. It fled the scene and authorities are searching for the driver.
Fayette County accident investigators were back at the scene Friday morning to take measurements. It happened January 6 in the southbound lanes of State Road 85 heading into Fayetteville.
Deputies said the Mercedes SUV was passing in the grassy median when it forced another vehicle into Mitchell's pickup. His pickup left the road and struck this guardrail before ending up in the tall grass along the shoulder. He was killed instantly.
The driver of the Mercedes SUV kept going.
A quick snippet of the video shows the SUV speeding by a nearby surveillance video camera. But investigators are unable to tell if the driver is male or female.
They are appealing to the public help in identifying the SUV driver.
