COBB COUNTY, Ga. - The GBI has been called to investigate a shooting involving a police officer at a Cobb County hotel Friday morning.
Officials have confirmed with FOX 5 that the shooting happened near the Roadway Inn on the 1200 block of Winchester Parkway in Smyrna.
According to the Cobb County police, an officer shot one suspect at the scene, who fled and tried to hide under a manhole cover. Police have three suspects, including one shot by officers, in custody. Police are still looking for a fourth.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
Cobb County police were searching for suspects who broke into several cars at the hotel. Police said officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a Toyota RAV4, which drove off.
Police said four men jumped out and ran when Cobb County officers stopped the car with a PIT maneuver.
One suspect, armed with a handgun, pointed it at officers, according to the Cobb County Police Department. An officer fired and hit the suspect, who continued to run. Police arrested the man and took him to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
GBI agents have been called to the scene and will do their own independent investigation.
