GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Gwinnett County Police announced Thursday they have filed charges against a Duluth woman in connection with a three-vehicle accident that killed two children.
The crash happened on Steve Reynolds Boulevard near Windward Lane around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
According to police investigators, a Mitsubishi Endeavor driven by 28-year-old Cindy Catalan-Ordonez of Duluth was traveling northbound on Steve Reynolds Boulevard when it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Toyota Rav 4 head-on.
The collision pushed the Toyota backward into a Honda Civic.
Medics rushed all three drivers including Catalan-Ordonez and 5 passengers to a local hospital.
Two of the passengers in the Toyota, 8-year-old Vincent Kim and 14-year-old Kristin Kim, died from their injuries.
By Thursday afternoon, police secured 4 warrants against Catalan-Ordonez, including 2 counts of Homicide by Vehicle, 1 count of Vehicles to Drive on Right Side of Roadway, and 1 count of Reckless Driving.
Police plan to book the woman into the Gwinnett County Jail after her release from the hospital.
The accident also injured the driver of the Toyota, 38-year-old Rithy Kim of Stone Mountain, and a passenger. 37-year-old Rachana Tep. Also injured in the wreck were the driver of the Honda, 22-year-old Jaleia Foxx of Norcross, and 2 passengers, 22-year-old Janelle Roberson, and 1-year-old Emma Foxx.
Investigators impounded all of the vehicles at Gwinnett County Police Department Headquarters for evidence processing.
In a news release to FOX 5 Atlanta, Gwinnett Police wrote, “Though the loss of life in any traffic collision is terrible, it is especially heartbreaking when the death involves a child. Our thoughts are with the Kim family as they cope with the loss of both children.”
