Woman convicted of murder of mother of boyfriend's child

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama woman has been found guilty of murder in the death of the mother of her boyfriend's child.

AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/2sDfFfa ) 36-year-old Josalyn Nicole Evans was convicted Wednesday in the 2016 shooting death of 24-year-old Iesha Mayhand.

Information in court revealed that Mayhand's cousins took her to Evans' home to pickup money from her child's father, Patrick Lewis. Evans was in a relationship with Lewis and four months pregnant with twins. The two women argued and Evans followed Mayhand to the car, eventually shooting her in the shoulder and head.

Defense attorney Ken Gomany said Mayhand "had no business being there" and was shot out of self-defense.

Jefferson County Assistant District Attorneys Joe Hicks and Dain Stewart said they were happy with the verdict.
