Woman dies after shooting in Waffle House parking lot

Police in DeKalb County believes a deadly shooting early Tuesday morning stemmed from a domestic situation.

It happened in the parking lot of a Waffle House on Flat Shoals Parkway. DeKalb County Police said a woman was found on the ground outside the restaurant. Emergency officials rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, but police said she died on the way.

“They stopped at this Waffle House, there were three people. One person entered the restaurant and there were two people in the car. And that would be the suspect and the victim,” said Shiera Campbell, DeKalb County Police Department.

Police believe the woman’s boyfriend, who was in the car, shot the woman in the head. He then shoved her body out of the car, according to investigators, before driving off. The third person, a man, was still inside the restaurant when the car took off.

DeKalb County Police they are still searching for the gunman, but are not yet ready to release surveillance video identifying the suspect.

“Right now, we don't release that right away. Right now, this is considered a domestic situation,” said Campbell.

Investigators said they do have more to go on, but they are not yet ready to release that to the public.

Police said this is the third domestic shooting this week in the county.
