ATLANTA - Investigators in Gwinnett County are trying to determine what led up to a deadly domestic shooting late Friday night.
It happened around 10:20 p.m. in the 5500 block of Estates Court near Norcross. Corporal Wilbert Rundels with the Gwinnett County Police Department said officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute with shots having been fired.
Police said officers found the body of 26-year-old Chessington Marshall in the bathroom of the home, died from apparent multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers took into custody 23-year-old John David Briggs who was also at the home. Police said he was unarmed at the time and requested medical assistance.
"The suspect requested medical attention and while he was being assessed, he fled on foot," Cpl. Rundels said. “He was still handcuffed at the time he did flee.”
Police set up a wide perimeter and brought in the K-9 unit to track the man. Cpl Rundels said he was taken into custody within an hour of fleeing the scene.
The was interviewed by detectives to determine what led to the shooting. Briggs has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
