Street racers killed daughter: ‘You took a life’

The Atlanta Police Department needs the public's help to find the driver who hit and killed a woman on Interstate 20 earlier this month.

An Atlanta mother and police investigators are asking the public for help finding two suspected street racers who allegedly left a woman for dead on Interstate 20.

The crash happened shortly before 1:40 a.m. on Aug. 4 on I-20 just past Moreland Avenue.

Officers responding to the scene found Shantae Reeves lying on the interstate. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Investigators say they believe Reeves was walking along the shoulder when she was hit by one of two vehicles that were dodging between other cars at high speeds on the interstate.

Mom searching for driver who killed daughter

Della Reeves emotionally begged anyone who has information that could help find the suspected street racers who killed her daughter in a hit-and-run on Interstate 20 to contact the police.

Investigators have few details about the vehicles involved but believe the car that hit Reeves was a 2001 to 2015 Lexus.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Reeves' mother Della Reeves burst into tears while asking for help finding out who killed her daughter.

"I just know there's somebody who knows somebody who knows what happened," she said.

She said she just wanted the person who did it to come forward and face justice.

"How could you live knowing that you hurt somebody? You took a life. Not only did you take a life, she got hit, and got hit multiple times so that her body is not even intact." Reeves said. "I can't even imagine how you can live with yourself."

She said that Reeves was a mother, daughter and sister.

"This will never be forgotten, and she will never be forgotten because I will never let this go," she said.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area and may have seen the vehicles to call the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at (404) 577-8477.

A reward of up to $2,000 is available for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction for the crime.
