GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A woman and her Gwinnett County church are on a mission to return a precious item to its rightful owner.
A few years ago, 12Stone Church Communications Direction Donna Whitten was in Chattanooga and came across a family bible. Whitten said she loves to shop for antiques and the bible just caught her eye. She said the outside of the bible was so beautifully detailed, but inside was even more special. It contains tons of great articles, which include obituaries dating back to the 1800’s.
"And then I got to the section that's just gold," Whitten said in a video shared on the 12Stone Church Facebook page. "This part with the marriages, the births and the deaths."
Whitten said that's when it occurred to her this is a family heirloom. The most ironic part is that bible belonged to the "Church" family.
Some of the names written under the "Deaths" section include: Henry L. Church, Charles Henry Church, Caroline Emily Church, Richard Whitney Church and Horatio Leander Church, who died on September 1, 1929.
In the Facebook video, Whitten is asking church members how far they would go to get back something that's lost this Easter.
"It made me wonder, how far could we go to return something that's lost," she said.
Whitten said she would love people to join her on the journey and help reunite the Church family with their bible.
