Boy selling water accused of scamming woman

A local woman says she's out of hundreds of dollars following a run-in with some of the so-called water boys in Buckhead. The woman tells FOX 5 one of the teens stole $400 from her via Cash App.

Teana Warren is warning others to be on guard following a run-in with a group of water boys in Buckhead. She said one of the suspects stole several hundred dollars from her via Cash App.

"I just want everybody to know that they're out there literally robbing people blind," Warren told FOX 5.

Warren crossed paths with the teens along Peachtree Valley Road on Thursday afternoon.

"My client was a little overwhelmed from the doctor's appointment, so I decided to get him a bottle of water," Warren explained.

The patient care assistant told FOX 5 she did not have cash. One of the water boys told her she could pay via Cash App.

"I said, ‘Hey, look, go ahead and put your Cash App in and that way I can send you the money for your transaction,’" Warren said.

Warren couldn't believe what happened next.

She said that a simple transaction set her back $400.

"He threw my phone at me and when I looked at it, I had seen that he had changed a $5 to $400 when he threw the phone at me, I picked up my phone. And once I realized that he had already submitted the transaction, I looked back and they had just ran off, just like they just had vanished."

"That $400 that I was going to use for my son's Christmas," Warren lamented. "I had to go home and tell him what had happened."

Warren said she and some of her family members have reached out to the person the water boy sent the money to, with no luck.

"I'm assuming it was not his cash app," Warren said, "but maybe a woman, maybe his girlfriend's sister. We have been trying to request the $400 back. Each and every time someone different requests the $400, she immediately blocks us, and she declines the payment."

Warren has contacted Cash App to dispute the transaction and has filed a police report.
