Portable classrooms set ablaze

Fire investigators want to find out who set fire to a couple of portable classrooms at a DeKalb County elementary school. The blaze at Woodridge Elementary School started early Thursday morning with some incriminating evidence left behind.

Firefighters in DeKalb County spent Thursday morning battling a blaze that destroyed two classroom trailers at a local elementary school. Fire investigators say they are not ruling out anything including arson.

Officials with DeKalb Fire tell FOX 5 that the fire started sometime before 4 a.m. at Woodridge Elementary School, which is located on the 4100 block of Cedar Ridge Trail in Stone Mountain.

The 911 caller was visiting his parents who live next door to the school. He tells FOX 5 he was getting ready for the day when heard what sounded like an explosion.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found flames tearing through two classroom trailers.

After fighting the fire for around an hour, the crews were able to stop it from spreading and put it out.

The main structure of the elementary school was not damaged and no one was injured.

Fire investigators are on their way to the scene to determine what started the fire. FOX 5's Marc Teichner saw a gas can that investigators had recovered at the scene.

Despite the discovery, fire investigators say it is too early to make a ruling on the cause of the fire.

Investigators are hoping surveillance video will give some insight into the blaze.
