You won’t believe what’s inside this Monroe children’s bookshop

MONROE, Ga. - Picture it: a magical wardrobe, that when opened leads children and their families into a vibrant world of colorful illustrations and whimsical stories. Sounds like something out of a children’s book, right?

Well, in the case of Monroe’s The Story Shop, truth is even more enchanting than fiction.

The Story Shop is an independent children's bookstore opened in 2016 by owner Melissa Music — and this morning on Good Day Atlanta, we "tumbled down the rabbit hole" to check out this fantastical destination. Now, we’re fans of any bookshop here at Good Day Atlanta — but The Story Shop is special; designed by Stephanie Cannon to essentially be a storybook come to life, the experience includes a C. S. Lewis-worthy wardrobe which opens up into a storytime area, a yellow brick road right on the floor, and a hobbit hole in which to curl up and get lost in a good book. 

Of course, the shelves inside are stocked with everything from timeless classics to current bestsellers, and the shop regularly hosts special events (click over to the website and you’ll find pictures from a National Unicorn Day celebration and a Harry Potter for Adults party!). The Story Shop has also partnered with Doyle Wallace Photography to host photo sessions inside the store, which last an hour and include four visual locations inside the space.

The Story Shop is located at 124 North Broad Street in Monroe, and its hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more information on visiting the store, click here.
