Young girl, grandmother among triple-murder victims

The investigation continued Monday night into a triple murder in Muscogee County that claimed the life of a 10 year-old-girl, her grandmother, and the girl’s teenage uncle.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said Gloria Short, her son Caleb and her granddaughter, 10-year-old Geonia Lindsey, were pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m. Monday.

Bryan says the three died from blunt force trauma with the bodies "scattered throughout the house."

Authorities say Gloria Short's husband who works as a nurse called 911 at around 8 a.m. and reported that he found the three dead when he returned home from work on Bentley Drive in Columbus.

Investigators recovered two vehicles Monday afternoon that had been missing from the home.

Understandably, Gloria Short's brother is having a hard time coming to grips with the violence that claimed three lives of his family members.

Teddy Kindred told FOX 5’s Aungelique Proctor, “I am lost really, without words, because I never thought anything like this would happen to her.”

Kindred said, “She didn't deserve it because she was a God-fearing woman and she worked hard for everything she had. She was a good mother. She loved the kids and the grandkids.”

Stunned residents who live in the quiet suburban neighborhood describe the Short family as the type of people who were always caring and helpful and stayed to themselves.

Resident Matthew Cleveland who went to high school with Caleb said, “It is something that has never been done in this area at all, so it is like a shock to hear about one of our closest brothers, friends or loved ones. I can only say pray for the family.”

Gloria's brother says he will need that prayer because he didn't get to say goodbye to his baby sister.

Kindred said, “I will never be able to tell her that I love her, because when we saw one another we assumed that we all new, but I will am here to tell you if you got loved ones, tell them while they are alive.”
