Young woman shot in robbery at apartment complex

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - There were terrifying moments for a young woman who tried to fight off a robber this weekend.

Police say the thief shot the woman near her Brookhaven apartment.

Thankfully, that woman survived but the shooter is still on the loose as of Monday evening.

Police say the victim was walking through the Post Glen apartment complex early Saturday when the gunman approached her. She tried to fight him off with her umbrella but he shot her in the leg and ran off with her belongings.

Neighbors found the injured woman and called 911.

The company that owns the apartment complex Mid America acknowledges that one of the entry gates was broken last week.

Still, it's unclear how the intruder got in.
