Ariyl Onstott
Ariyl Onstott joined the FOX 5 news team in 2024. She hosts news, live events, and original content on the FOX LOCAL app for your Roku, Amazon FireTV, Apple TV, Google Android TV and Vizio. Ariyl began her TV career as a reporter in Toledo, Ohio, where she quickly grew into new roles, ultimately becoming her station’s breaking news anchor.
An Emmy-winning journalist, Ariyl thrives on a breaking news story, working to uncover the truth and help calm people’s fears. She broke many of northwest Ohio’s biggest stories, from an Ohio ISIS supporter’s plot to attack two Toledo synagogues to being the only reporter on scene moments after an Ohio police officer was killed and a state-wide manhunt ensued. Her empathy earned exclusive interviews with the families of two young Toledo police officers, both killed in the line of duty months apart. When the coronavirus lockdown hit, she was doing Facebook Lives for hours, helping people navigate Ohio’s unemployment process and showing them where to find COVID-19 tests.
Passionate about making sense of America’s legal and political systems, Ariyl has covered U.S. presidential and senate debates. Her extensive coverage of the hazing trial in death of Bowling Green State University student Stone Foltz shone a national spotlight on the role universities play in ending hazing.
During her four years in Toledo, Ariyl also helped raise millions of dollars for children fighting cancer at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through her TV station’s dream home giveaway campaign. Serving others is one reason why she loves telling stories.
Outside the U.S., Ariyl’s reporting has taken her to Sri Lanka, where she covered the island nation’s economy and emerging democracy in the aftermath of its brutal civil war, earning her the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence award. She also spent a month and a half in South Africa, where she reported on and studied human rights issues, racial reconciliation, and sustainable development.
A 2017 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Ariyl is no stranger to Atlanta, visiting the city multiple times as she earned degrees in broadcast journalism and public policy leadership.
When she’s not hosting on FOX OCAL, you can find Ariyl buried in a book, taking walks on the Beltline with her Siberian Husky, attending a Pilates class, or discussing wellness, fashion, and travel on her Instagram @ariylceleste.
