Sisters' Buzzer-Beaters Lead to Championship Win
Ellijay, Ga. - In last week's North Georgia Mountain Middle School Championship game, Clear Creek Middle was down 3 with 8 seconds left. That's when Emma Callihan got the ball.
"I pull up to the three-point line and shot," says Emma.
"She made the three to go to overtime," adds little sister Elly. Elly is a 6th grader also on the Clear Creek team.
In overtime, older sister Emma went down with injury, forcing little sister into the game. Clear Creek was again down with under 10 seconds to play. This time it was a two point deficit.
"The coach told me to dribble to the basket," remembers Elly.
Instead of going to the hoop, "I chunked it from the timeline." And the shot banked off the backboard and went in to put Clear Creek ahead.
"She didn't even know it went in," says big sister Emma.
"I didn't see it," jokes Elly, then added "it was all skill."
That is how the North Georgia Middle School Championship was won and why these sisters are the talk of Ellijay.
