Vince Dooley talks about plans to create Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium
ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia Athletic Association Board of Directors has formally endorsed a proposal to create Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium.
The college football legend himself weighed in Friday on the proposal.
Dooley served as Georgia's football coach for 25 years, leading the Dawgs to the 1980 National Championship and six SEC Championships.
FOX 5 Sports talked to Coach Dooley about the moment he found out about the plans.
The proposal still requires approval by the University Cabinet, and from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.
If approved, the dedication ceremony of Dooley Field will take place right before the Dawgs' 2019 Home Opener.
