Former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin is making another attempt to overturn his federal civil rights conviction in the 2020 murder of George Floyd, saying new evidence shows that he didn’t cause Floyd’s death.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys for two former Minneapolis police officers charged in the killing of George Floyd have filed more than 100 motions to limit testimony or evidence at trial — with many requests relying heavily on what happened at the previous two trials in Floyd’s death.

Former Minneapolis police officers Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng have rejected last and final plea offers, and will go to trial this fall. 

The final two former Minneapolis police officers who violated George Floyd's civil rights were sentenced Wednesday in federal court.

Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 20 ½ years in prison on Thursday after reaching a plea agreement on federal charges that he violated George Floyd's civil rights in 2020, as well as those of Jonathan Pope, a Black teenager, in 2017.
