Six months after his death, the late civil rights leader and longtime Georgia congressman John Lewis will retain a palpable influence in Congress: The state’s two new Democratic U.S. senators — both personal friends and admirers — promise to carry on his legacy.

7 Georgia counties head to polls to decide Congressional, State Senate seats

Georgians in about seven counties will head to the polls for a runoff election on Tuesday. The runoff will decide who will fill the final month of the late-Rep. John Lewis’ seat in Georgia’s 5th Congressional District, also who will fill the seat for State Senate District 39, and the district attorney for Clarke and Oconee counties. Several smaller municipal races will also be determined.

Hall, Franklin head to runoff for rest of John Lewis’ term

Former Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall and former Morehouse College President Robert Franklin advanced to a runoff in Tuesday’s special election to fill the short remainder of the late John Lewis’ term in Congress.
