Jasper is the latest Georgia county receive a FEMA disaster recovery center in response to the severe storms from Jan. 12 that transformed into disastrous tornadoes in some areas. The center is slated to open its doors Tuesday morning for one-on-one assistance.

FEMA opened a disaster recovery center Wednesday at the Senior Center in Spalding County to help families impacted by tornadoes Jan. 12.

Egan Jeffcoat was picked up by his mom from school so that they could get home before the storm hit last week. While driving, a falling tree hit their car, killing the 5-year-old Georgia boy and leaving his mother in critical condition.

The hum of chainsaws and generators filled the air as Chris Chiles and many of the volunteers with the "God’s Pit Crew" organization from Danville, Virginia came to help cleanup Griffin, Georgia.

President Biden's new declaration makes federal funding available to many individuals in the Georgia counties most affected by last week's severe storms and multiple tornadoes.

Rain Tuesday made clean-up efforts more challenging for Henry County residents who lost everything or must deal with damage from last week's violent storms.

Many of the homes inside the Pine Glen Mobile Home Park are destroyed.

Counties being considered are Butts, Henry, Jasper, Meriwether, Newton, Spalding, and Troup.
