CORINNE, Utah - At least one person is dead, and two others were hurt after lightning struck a group of people while fishing on a boat in the river.
The Box Elder County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened Sunday morning and officers were called to the Bear River in Corinne.
Authorities said three people were fishing. When lightning struck them, it caused the boat to capsize, throwing them into the water.
Two people were able to make it to shore and were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A third person when underwater and couldn't be located. Rescuers recovered the body hours later.
The names of the victims have not been released pending notification of kin.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this tragic loss, particularly the friends and family of the deceased," Chief Deputy Sheriff Cade Palmer said in a Facebook post. "We are sincerely grateful to all the professionals and volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts to the search and successful recovery process."
