Beryl, first hurricane of the season, a little stronger

As of 11 a.m. Friday, Tropical Storm Beryl has become a little stronger, packing 80 mph winds. 

Beryl was upgraded to a category one hurricane overnight, making it the first hurricane of the Atlanta Hurricane Season. The season started early with Tropical Storm Alberto in May.  No storms formed in June.

Hurricane Beryl is a small storm, moving west at 15 mph and is about 1,045 miles ESE of Lesser Antilles. Hurricane force winds only extend out 10 miles from the center of circulation and tropical storm force winds extend out 35 miles.

The current models have Beryl weakening to a tropical storm over the weekend as it approaches land and eventually falling apart in the Caribbean Sea.  This would mean little to no impacts for Georgia weather.
