Temperatures dropped below freezing overnight, causing the moisture left on the roads from Tuesday night's snow to refreeze again. This is the beginning of a nice January thaw because temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s this weekend. We will remain more seasonable over the next 7-10 days.
Light snow started falling Tuesday evening and continued through the early morning hours. Accumulations of one inch were reported across much of the area, with isolated locations reporting closer to two inches of snow. The snow ended across the FOX 5 viewing area by mid-morning Wednesday.
Roads were covered by a thin layer of snow, but thanks to strong winds and cold temperatures, visibility was poor and roads were treacherous early Wednesday. The Georgia Department of Transportation called on people throughout the area to stay home and avoid non-essential travel.
Thankfully, warmer weather is on the way and the weekend is expected to be perfect for outdoor activities. There will be plenty of sunshine and highs in the 50s and 60s.
