Severe weather outlook: Examining tornado and damaging wind threats
Heavy rain will move through metro Atlanta by about 3 p.m. The line of storms washes over until the early evening. There's an upgraded risk of damaging winds and brief tornadoes.
ATLANTA - After a rain-free and warm weekend, showers and thunderstorms will progress into Georgia on Monday afternoon. The main threats will be damaging winds and the chance of brief tornadoes in northwest Georgia and metro Atlanta.
On Saturday, a cold front brought storms and some severe weather to the midwest. That moved to parts of the deep south on Sunday, including lower Mississippi and Tennessee valleys.
Strong to severe thunderstorms might develop on Monday over Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and northwestern Georgia.
Warm temperatures on Monday could help to support a few strong to severe storms.
THE LATEST FOX 5 STORM TEAM FORECAST
Damaging winds are the primary, slight threat extending east of Athens, south of McDonough and as far southwest as LaGrange. Areas of central Georgia are under a marginal risk. The storms bring with them a possibility of tornadoes. Wind gusts may be stronger in northwest Georgia before they move into metro Atlanta.
There round of strongest storms will sweep through north Georgia at 1 p.m. and pass metro Atlanta by 9 p.m. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
A line of storms may enter Georgia by about 1 p.m. on Monday and advance into metro Atlanta by about 4 p.m. The line of storms may move so quickly that rainfall totals should remain low.
