Atlanta track star Kristi Castlin heads to Rio

Atlanta native Kristi Castlin will head to Rio as part of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team. 

She is one of only three women on the 100 meter hurdle team. 

She joined anchor Karen Graham Monday on Good Day Atlanta to talk about her journey.

Castlin has decided to dedicate her upcoming Olympic competition to victims of gun violence, something that she has experienced first-hand. 

She was only 13 when her father was shot and killed during a robbery at the hotel he worked at in Cobb County.  The case went unsolved for 15 years but in March of this year, a jury convicted a man in the murder of her father.  

But the death of her father at a young age was not her only encounter with the effects of gun violence.

When she was a freshman at Virginia Tech a gunman killed 32 people and wounded others on the school's campus.
