A sneak peek at the Black Friday AJC deals

Black Friday is this week. A big shopping day that can't be missed for many. But often you don't fully know what's available until the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Black Friday edition comes out.

It's a big, big paper. It's packed with five pounds of ads, deals and coupons for the professional and the amateur shopper, too. We go behind the scenes as we kick of a week-long look at the Black Friday buzz.

Thursday's edition of the AJC weighs more than a chihuahua, as much as a big bottle of soda, and the same as a five-pound sack of potatoes. It's heavy.

It's huge. It's five pounds. When you go out to your yard Thanksgiving Day morning, picking it up, it's going to be obese." explained Allison Altobelli the director of advertising sales at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

It's the newspaper's version of the Super Bowl.  It's been all-hands-on deck filling the paper with 22 million fliers full of Black Friday deals and door busters.  The paper's Allison Altobelli is a Black Friday shopper too.

"And, I need to know what the deals are. A lot of those deals are kept totally top secret until Thanksgiving Day until the newspaper publishes."

Black Friday power shopper Aimee Brittain agreed.

"Oh, gosh you have to look at that newspaper."

She waits all year for this day. And, she happily plunks down three bucks for this edition of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution hoping to save lots of money.

"That Thanksgiving paper is the most important because it's going to have every single ad for almost every single store that's doing Black Friday," she said.

It's a Thursday paper that also comes out in a few places a day early just in case you want a heads up to deals in electronics, jewelry, tires, just about anything really.

You go out into your yard and pick up your five pound newspaper, bring it into your house, open it up, tear through the inserts, see what's on sale. It's as much of a Thanksgiving tradition as turkey, stuffing, football and families," said Allison Altobelli.
