Bomb squad investigates suspicious package outside Barrow County post office

The Barrow County Sheriff's Office is reporting a suspicious package found outside a United States Post Office (USPO) Sunday morning. 

What we know:

At approximately 11:34 a.m., the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a suspicious package placed outside the front doors to the post office located at 820 Monroe Highway. The business was closed at the time.

Deputies quickly arrived, established a perimeter, and called in specialized units, including the University of Georgia Police Department Bomb Squad, to assess the situation.

The package was ultimately deemed non-threatening, and the scene was cleared without incident.

An investigation into where the package came from is ongoing.

Sheriff Jud Smith praised the caller for their vigilance.

"We encourage all residents to remain observant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Community awareness is one of our strongest tools in keeping Barrow County safe," Smith said.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office also expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation during the incident.
