Metro Atlanta student accused of hiding guns, ammo in high school bathroom

A Cartersville High School student is facing charges for reportedly hiding two firearms and ammunition inside one of the school's bathrooms.

Investigators say the case began with a shooting at an apartment complex in the city.

The backstory:

Authorities tell FOX 5 that officers with the Cartersville Police Department responded to a shots fired call at the Ivy Glen Apartments on Ridge Road around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

At the complex, officers found a BMW that had been shot multiple times and shell casings.

Investigators say they quickly determined that the gunman was a student at Cartersville High School and that they went to class after the shooting.

What we know:

Using information gathered in the investigation, police say they found two firearms and ammunition hidden in an upstairs bathroom at the high school.

The student is charged with multiple counts of entering auto, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, reckless conduct, and carrying a weapon in a school safety zone.

Officials say the student was charged as a juvenile and was remanded to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

What we don't know:

 Due to the student being a juvenile, police have not released their name.

Authorities have also not said what led up to the shooting.
