Chamblee Police identify man shot, killed by officers

CHAMBLEE, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a deadly police shooting that happened at a QuikTrip on Chamblee Tucker Road early Sunday morning.

Officers said it all started when they got a call that a man shot another man in the hand during a drive-by shooting on New Peachtree Road. A few minutes later, witnesses told officers a man was shooting at passing cars from the QuikTrip parking lot. Shortly after officers arrived on the scene, investigators said the suspect took off running down Quantum Lane.
    
Chamblee Police Chief Mike Beller told FOX 5 News officers saw the man, now identified as 38-year-old Dallas resident Paul David Johnson, shooting again at that location.

"Fearing for their safety and the safety of the public at large, a Chamblee Police officer fired one shot striking the subject. The offender was detained and later passed away on the scene," Beller said.

Authorities believe the same suspect was involved in the series of shootings because of the silver car that witnesses describe seeing in the incidents.
    
The motive of the shooting is unknown at this time. Police are not releasing the name of the suspect. As a part of a procedural move, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.

Chamblee Police are working with Atlanta Police to see if this incident is connected to other shootings.
