Multiple detained after fight, no shooting at Cumberland Mall, police say

There was an increased law enforcement presence at Cumberland Mall after Cobb County police officers were called to investigate a report of an active shooting.

When they arrived, the officers confirmed there was a "large physical altercation" but no indication of any shooting. There were also no victims found after a sweep of the premises. They called the original report "unfounded."

Multiple people were detained. It's not clear yet whether any of them will be charged.

Cobb County police say the report of a shooting at Cumberland Mall on Dec. 22, 2024,  turned out to be "unfounded."

This came Sunday evening as many people were out finishing up last-minute holiday shopping.

Officers asked nearby residents and shoppers to avoid the area until further notice.

Brookfield Properties, which manages the properties, later sent the following statement to FOX 5 Atlanta:

We do not tolerate this type of behavior, and we have banned the individuals from our center. We have a strict code of conduct that we expect everyone to follow. We have a robust security program in place that includes a close partnership with Cobb County Police Department.
