Forsyth County sex crimes suspect killed in Florida
A man wanted in Forsyth County for sex crimes involving a child was killed during a shootout with deputies in Florida. The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Matthew Steven Rollie.
DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. - A man wanted in Forsyth County for sexual crimes involving a child was reportedly killed in a shootout with Florida deputies.
What we know:
The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office in Florida received a tip from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office that 30-year-old Matthew Steven Rollie was in their jurisdiction.
There was a warrant out for Rollie's arrest back in Georgia for enticing a child for indecent purposes.
When the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office discovered Rollie was a sex offender who had not registered in their county, they opened a search for him.
At 2:16 a.m. on Saturday, two DeSoto County Sheriff's Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on what they believed to be a car associated with Rollie.

While the officers attempted to identify him, they said he pulled a gun on them and opened fire. One of the deputies was shot multiple times.
They returned fire, ultimately killing Rollie.
The deputy who was injured has been treated and is expected to make a recovery.

It's not clear what Rollie was doing in Florida.
Details of his reported crime in Forsyth County were not made clear.

Per DeSoto County Sheriff's Office policy, the shooting is being investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
