Driver, passenger arrested after police chase through Carroll County
CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - A driver and a passenger face charges following a police chase through Carroll County on Wednesday.
Officials say the chase began when a Carroll County deputy tried to make a traffic stop and the driver fled.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the chase continued through the county and onto Georgia 166 near River Ridge Drive. It was then that officials say the vehicle tried to escape from a Motor Carrier Compliance Department officer in a Marathon gas station parking lot.
At the gas station, officials say a passenger holding a child got out of the vehicle while it was moving. While they were attempting to leave the vehicle, their door reportedly hit the Georgia State trooper's car.
The vehicle continued to flee onto Tyus Carrolton Road, hitting another patrol vehicle. After an officer used a PIT technique, the car was forced onto a grassy area and the suspect tried to get away on foot.
The driver was quickly apprehended. Officials say they learned the driver had warrants for aggravated assault. The passenger reportedly also had active warrants out for their arrest.
Officials have not released the driver or passenger's identities or what charges they may be facing.
