JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. - Deputies have charged a juvenile with a felony for allegedly making a threat to a Jackson County middle school.
Officials say the threat was towards East Jackson Middle School in Commerce, Georgia.
What we know:
While details about the threat remain limited, the sheriff's office said that they believe the threat was isolated to one individual.
The juvenile was charged with terroristic threats and acts. Their parents are cooperating with investigators.
What we don't know:
Officials have not shared the nature of the threat or the identity of the juvenile.
What they're saying:
"We are very thankful for our school resource officers and investigators. Their swift and diligent work helped bring about a safe and successful resolution to the matter," Sheriff Kevin McCook said. "I also want to thank school Superintendent Dr. Phillip Brown and his staff for their assistance. We take these types of threats seriously and will act accordingly."
Big picture view:
The arrest was the latest student in the county in hot water over alleged threats to local schools.
In September, two 12-year-olds from Legacy Knoll Middle School and East Jackson Middle School were arrested and charged with terroristic threats.
The threats happened days after the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School.
