An officer shot a naked man in Douglas County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The state law enforcement agency has been asked to investigate the incident.

Officers were called out to the area along Preston Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 report of a suspicious person. Officers got into a struggle with the man when they tried to approach him, that’s when police said an officer opened fire, striking the man in the arm.

“He was attempting to help the young man. Evidently he appeared to be in some type of distress. He motioned for the young man to stay in place. The young man attempted to lunge out towards the officer. While lunging at him the young man also attempted to swing at him and throw some punches.  The officer decided to discharge his firearm and shot the young man in the arm,” said witness Deonte Bridges.

Investigators also said the man was shocked with a stun gun before he was taken into custody.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for his non-life threatening injury.

It is unclear if the man faces any charges.

None of the officers who responded to the scene were injured.
