Georgia woman hit by apparent New Year's Eve celebratory gunfire

 

A Coweta County woman is recovering after officials say she was shot by what appears to be New Year's Eve celebratory gunfire.

Officials with the Grantville Police Department say the shooting happened shortly after midnight on Canterbury Drive.

According to police, the woman was driving when the bullet came through the top of her windshield and hit her leg.

Medics took the woman to a local hospital for treatment. Officials say she is expected to survive her injuries.

Investigators believe that the bullet may have come from people shooting firearms into the air due to the angle of the projectile.

"These kinds of acts are illegal and dangerous," the department wrote on Facebook.
