Henry County is beginning a search for a new leader of its fire and rescue department after the sudden resignation of its previous fire chief.

Fire Chief Jonathan Burnette resigned from his post on Monday.

Burnette did not give a reason for his departure. He had been in the role since August 2021.

"It has been an honor and privilege to serve this department and the community for 27 years," Burnette wrote in his letter of resignation to County Manager Cheri Matthews.

The county tells FOX 5 that there is no investigation within it human resources department regarding his departure.

While the county looks for a new leader for the agency, Deputy Fire Chief Pat Wilson has been named interim fire chief.

He brings more than 35 years of fire experience to the role.
