High school athlete dies after collapsing during basketball game

An Eagle's Landing High School student has died after collapsing during a basketball game on Friday.

School officials confirmed to FOX 5 that one of their student athletes required medical attention during Friday night's game in Henry County.

According to the school's athletic calendar, the Eagle's Landing boy's basketball team was playing Woodland High School.

Officials said paramedics rushed the student to Piedmont Henry Hospital, where he later passed away.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to this student’s family," a spokesman for Henry County Schools said.

So far, school officials have not released who the young person is or the cause of his collapse.

They did say grief counselors will be available for any students and staff at school on Monday.
