Ice cream truck driver arrested after robbery report
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - Cherokee Sheriff’s detectives arrested an ice cream truck driver Thursday night after he allegedly lied about being robbed.
Detectives charged 30-year-old Joseph Heath Wade of Canton with false report of a crime and giving a false statement.
According to a news release from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Wade told deputies Monday afternoon that 4 black males had robbed him as he sat in his ice cream truck at a church parking lot on Reinhardt College Parkway in Canton.
Wade reportedly told deputies that the robbers took approximately $500 to $600 from ice cream sales.
According to the release, detectives contacted the ice cream company owner and discovered a significant amount of ice cream was missing from the truck Wade had driven.
The owner told detectives he had fired Wade earlier in the week.
While detectives interviewed Wade Thursday afternoon, he reportedly admitted to detectives he made up the story about the robbery.
Detectives said Wade claimed he used the missing money to pay the drug debt of another person.
Wade remains in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $12,200 bond.
