Jimmy Carter funeral plans, schedule of events announced
PLAINS, Ga. - The Carter Center has released the funeral plans and schedule of events to celebrate the life of former President Jimmy Carter.
Jimmy Carter died on Sunday at age 100 surrounded by family at his home in Plains, according to the Carter Center. He was the longest-lived president in U.S. history.

The events begin in Americus on Jan. 4 and will conclude in Plains on Jan. 9.
The Carter family has invited the public to participate in a number of public viewings and funeral processions planned in both Georgia and Washington.
The day-by-day schedule is as follows:

Jan. 4 - Jimmy Carter's last trip to The Carter Center
10:15 a.m.
- The Carter family arrives at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus
- Current and former U.S. Secret Service agents will carry Carter's remains to hearse
- Motorcade departs
10:50 a.m.
- Motorcade travels through Plains
- Motorcade makes stop at Carter family farm
- National Park Service salutes Carter, rings historic farm bell 39 times
