MARTA Police Officer Killed in Accident Remembered
ATLANTA, Ga. - Hundreds of law enforcement officers from all over Georgia came together Saturday to pay their last respects to a MARTA police officer that was killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident.
Officer Jesse Tarplin died on September 12 when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a stopped vehicle. Police said Tarplin was escorting a funeral procession at the time of the accident.
Family and friends remembered him during Saturday’s funeral service as one of the best.
“He was a leader amongst his team. Definitely one that young officers looked up to and I think that we’re mourning someone that everyone cared about in a special way,” said MARTA Police Lieutenant Aston Greene.
Officer Tarplin was a husband, father of five children and former Georgia Tech football star. His wife is expecting their sixth child.
