Police: 2 East Point officers injured, suspect dies in shooting
EAST POINT, Ga. - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is spearheading an officer-involved shooting investigation in East Point.
Investigators said 911 calls about a reported domestic disturbance and a suspicious person brought East Point police to Legends at Laura Creek Apartments off Lakeview Place just after 3 a.m. Friday.
Officers tried to talk to the man, but he took off and encountered another East Point Police officer in an upper level landing. The man tried to fight the officer, so the GBI said an officer tried to use a stun gun on him.
During the scuffle, investigators said an officer fired multiple shots, striking the man. He was transported rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died.
Two patrol officers, whose names have not yet been released, were hurt during the incident and were taken to the hospital.
Investigators haven’t released any information on the suspect’s identity.
