Police: Man beaten with cane in Athens bar

Police have arrested an Athens man for using his cane to assault another man at a bar.

The victim sustained "lacerations to the back of his head", and a "substantially swollen eye and forehead" after he was struck by a man with a walking cane in an Athens bar, according to an Athens-Clarke County police report obtained by FOX 5.

The report says that 22-year-old Omar Mohib Hamed struck 28-year-old Deon Kerry Hunt at 'Cloud', a bar in Athens, on Sunday.

Hamed used a walking cane in a "two-handed sword position" as a weapon, according to the police report. Several witnesses told police that Hunt was breaking up a fight between a male and female in the establishment, when he was hit on the head by Hamed, according to police.

The police report says that Hunt declined EMS services, and 'Cloud' is cooperating with police in providing tapes of the incident.

Hamed was arrested for aggravated assault, according to the report.
