Police: Man tried to sexually assaulted woman at Dunwoody park
DUNWOODY, Ga. - A woman is in the hospital after police said she was attacked by a stranger at a park in Dunwoody. Officers said it happened in the women's restroom at Pernoshal Park.
It was very early Wednesday morning, Dunwoody Police said a woman was inside the restroom when a man walked in and tried to sexually assault her. Investigators said the woman fought back with all her strength, fending off her attacker. Police said the woman told them the man eventually ran off and she called for help. She was rushed to the hospital.
About 24 hours later, the restroom doors were still locked. While children play nearby, women, like Catalina Sneed, are on edge.
"Makes you think twice to go out of your home," said Sneed.
Sneed said she's trying to come up with ways to protect herself when she's at the park.
"I never carry anything with me, but now I'm thinking about getting pepper spray or a knife and carry that with me to be safe," said Sneed.
Gabriella Layer said she plans to spread the word about what happened here, so others can be on alert.
"NextDoor, the people I work with, Facebook, WhatsApp, we need to make sure everybody is safe and protected," said Layer.
Dunwoody Police have checked with nearby businesses to see if any surveillance cameras captured an image of the man.
The woman told police her attacker is a light-skinned black man, between 18 and 25 years old, about 5'9" with a slim build.
